New Proton Size

Physicists in Germany and Canada have pegged the diameter of the proton at 0.84 femtometers (fm) which, until 2010, had been 4% smaller than the accepted diameter. This is an interesting example of indirect measurement. Equally interesting is the "fork in the road" these scientists faced. The discovery either lead to new physics or merely meant that the original diameter of the proton was inexact. Read the article here.
